 Bacteria in water 

The BactiQuant® is a rapid method for estimating bacterial contamination in water systems. It allows inspection on site and is available in both a stationary and a portable version.

With the BactiQuant®, bacterial contaminants can be concentrated from large volumes of water allowing low analysis time (10-30 minutes) even at relatively low bacterial concentrations.

The use of larger sample volumes (100-5000 ml) also ensures that samples are representative for the water system to be tested.

Applications

BactiQuant® provides you with an operational monitoring tool that allows rapid detection of deviations from performance requirements in water systems. The multiple modes of water sampling and the versatility of the BactiQuant® technology make it an essential element in the building of safe hygiene control systems. The BactiQuant® stationary system is currently being used at the two largest water companies in Denmark.

Diagnostics

BactiQuant® provides a field portable tool that can be used to conduct systematic on site examinations of water systems. On site evaluation of system performance saves valuable time and allows the service engineer to carry out remediate measures immediately.

Quality assurance

BactiQuant® can be used to provide immediate feedback on the efficacy of cleaning procedures.  The effectiveness of different cleaning methods and disinfectants and the optimization of cleaning procedures may also be evaluated.  Also the BactiQuant can be used as clearance testing after repair of water systems.       

Principle

BactiQuant® is based on the detection and quantification of an enzyme activity which belongs to a family of enzymes categorized as hydrolases.

The enzyme activity is present in bacteria. The activity is measured using a fluorogenic enzyme substrate, which upon cleavage by the bacterial enzyme, releases a fluorophore that fluoresces (emits light).

 The fluorescence is measured using a fluorometer. The analysis can be performed on-site within an hour.
